Data File

A file that contains information, such as names, addresses, account balances, pictures, poems, resumes, term papers, business plans, etc. 

Contrast these with Executable and Macro files.

Note: Some files primarily contain data, but may also contain macros. Examples include word processing files, spreadsheets, and some web pages.
